Alex Modic

Yoga Instructor

I’m Alex Modic (he/him)

I was introduced to yoga by my father when I was eight years old. I can clearly remember him doing bizarre stretches in the living room to a VHS tape with yogis in ’80s workout gear of bright neon green. Ten years later he gave me my first yoga book and encouraged me to practice as a supplement to my running. What started as an extension of my other workout routines became a fundamental base for my physical well-being, mental focus, and emotional stability.

I have always felt slightly out of place in the yoga world as both a cis man and a person with no spirituality. This has often made yoga feel inaccessible and untranslatable. However, I have found a beautiful and accommodating community in Minneapolis over the past few years. I have also found a calling to bring both men and nonspiritual people into yoga.

In the spring of 2024, I finished my 230-hour Holistic Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Sanctuary and have started teaching classes in Minneapolis. My training has given me the tools to decipher, translate, and understand the metaphysical parts of yoga. This has allowed me to gain the benefits of yoga philosophy without being spiritual.

My classes take a more secular, scientific, and objective view of how yoga affects the body and mind. I combine a fun workout with plenty of silly jokes, a relaxed and welcoming environment, and plenty of Star Wars references,

Humor, silliness, and chill vibes are the cornerstones of my life and teaching style. My classes are accessible to all bodies and abilities while also offering a physically challenging practice. I believe there is no scoreboard or judgment in yoga.

I am excited and humbled to be a part of Yoga Sanctuary. I believe that my silly energy and secular approach to yoga will be a wonderful fit for the studio.
